The Giuseppe Domenico Vajra winery operating in Vergne (one of the highest villages in Barolo) since the 1880s. Four generations later, Aldo Vajra never wanted to be a winemaker, but when he was caught as a teen at a protest, his family sent him off to this grandparents vineyards and he fell in love with wine. When he, took over the estate in 1968, his vision was to revive the high quality winemaking in his family legacy.  With the help of his wife Milena they dedicated all the estate to organic farming and utilized selection massale to plant grape varietals esoteric to Piedmont (there are Riesling and Pinot Noir vines in their fields!). The high elevation vineyards are a unique factor to the wines, allowing them to express finesse and remarkable complexity over power alone. Aldo's children -  Giuseppe, Francesca and Isidoro -  now continue the family legacy and continue to push farming in line with nature as a response to climate change in their home region.
