Bright and expressive, this Californian expression of a varietal typically indigenous to the Jura, in France is bursting with fruits-du-bois, wild herbs and finishes clean, linear and peppy. Chillable, sessionable and absolutely approachable for experienced wine aficionados and neophytes alike. Santa Ynez's rocky soils make for structure which balances the extroverted fruit and hint of earthiness.

Over 20 years ago, Thomas Stolpman discovered vines on a bed of limestone in the hills of California’s Central Coast. Unobstructed from the Pacific Ocean wind, this unique land was ideally suited to grow Syrah. The winery has been committed to preserving this natural environment for their vines through natural farming, dry farming, & sustainable employment with a focus unique to Ballard Canyon AVA encompassed within the larger Santa Ynez Valley in Santa Barbara County. Thomas’s son Peter Stolpman took over the estate operations in 2009.

For the first five years of a vine’s life, the estate irrigates to let the trunk and roots grow and then wean the plant from irrigation over the next 1-2 years. They do not water their vines to force them to fight for nutrients and moisture. They’ve found that the vines have a memory of years past, and soon begin to self-regulate the size of their crop. By naturally yielding fewer grapes, each vine pours all of its energy into ripening concentrated, vibrant, undiluted and balanced grape clusters.
Peter and Vineyard Manager, Ruben Solorzano founded the La Cuadrilla Foundation in order to expand their commitment to sustainable employment. Peter and Ruben provide a “cuadra” a small vineyard block to each crew member to provide each person an opportunity to farm their own vineyards. The non-profit involves other wineries also committed to the well-being of their full-time vineyard workers and donates proceeds to local Health clinics and sponsor college scholarships for the children of Agricultural workers in the Santa Ynez Valley.
