Quarterons is 100% Sauvignon Blanc from the Appellation Sancerre Contrôlée. A fresh, slightly creamy wine with some elderflower and peach on the nose, bright green orchard fruit, stony mineral touches and a long finish in your glass.

Sebastien Riffault is an 8th generation winemaker and unique in his style of Sancerre production He founded his winery in 2002, and works according to the principles of biodynamics, respecting the biodiversity in his vineyards and making natural wines, without any added oenological products. Sancerre, generally known for its elegant Sauvignon Blanc, is not seen as a forefront in the natural wine movement, however -- in fact, many have argued, it's quite the opposite.

Riffault, who after enology school had a brief stint working in wine retail in both London and Paris, became increasingly inspired by natural wines he'd been tasting from other parts of France and Europe. When he decided to return home to Sancerre in 2002, he began to convert his own family's holdings to organic and biodynamic farming, and as of 2007, he had converted all 35 parcels of the estate's 12 hectares under vine. He also started working naturally in the cellar and became committed to making wine without added yeast, sugar, enzymes, fining, filtration or excessive sulfur. He works his fields with plow and horse and the majority of work in the field and cellar is done by hand (or foot).

Quarterons is made from the estate's youngest vines grown in Portlandien chalk soils. Vines are around 30 years old.
