Plavina is a dark-skinned red grape variety grown exclusively in the Croatian region of Primorska Hrvatska.

Plavina has thick-skinned grapes that produce full-bodied wines with an abundance of tannins and dark, brambly fruit flavors. It is typical of the grape to be blended with other varietals to provide tannin and depth.

Plavina is also a close relative to Zinfandel. As southern Italy is just across the narrow Adriatic Sea to the south, it is little wonder similar varieties are to be found in these areas.
