An iconoclastic but gorgeous red and white blend of native Portuguese grapes done in a lighter style that can shine with a slight chill. 15% white grapes (mostly Malvasia Fina) along with the red-berried Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca, Tinta Roriz and Tinta Barroca varieties. Macerated for 10 days before aging in steel tanks and bottled unfiltered and unfined. A very different kind of Douro and decidedly delicious, with bright notes of plum, blackcurrant, eucalyptus, rhubarb and caraway.

A new and impressive take on the Claret style, this iteration hails from Portugal’s northern Douro Valley, the same place that makes the grapes for the country’s storied Port wines but done here as a lighter dry red! From the cellar of the non-interventionist winemaker, Mateus Nicolau de Almeida. 

Mateus Nicolau de Almeida comes from a clan of winegrowers, making wines from several regions of Portugal under a few different labels but always committed to organic viticulture, even embracing biodynamic practices in many of the vineyards.
