Land of Saints is a collaboration between 3 friends - Angela and Jason Osborne (A Tribute to Grace), and Manuel Cuevas (C2 Cellars), who met during the 2013 vintage and bonded over sunshine, moon signs and their blended roots( Kiwi/Cornish/Mexican-American). Plus they are all obsessed with the beautiful California lands their grapes are grown on, the vinous expressions of Santa Barbara County, and the goal of creating wines that encapsulate a true sense of place.

A little bit about the name Land of Saints, Jason hails from the county of Cornwall in Southwest England which has a rich and ancient history. Around 410AD the country entered a period known as the ‘age of the saints’ as holy people came and lived in this stunningly beautiful county. In the following centuries they left their name as a legacy to the land, and Cornwall became known as the ‘Land of Saints’. When he moved to CA he found a new Land of Saints (we counted 33 Sans and Santas), with it's own beautiful landscape, golden hills and open skies.

The quote on the back label refers to an old Cornish saying: What’s said of old, is said in truth. Applied to wine, this conveys their intentions to being true to where we are, and crafting honest expressions of the land. Varietals and sites will differ from year to year, intentionally, as part of the goal is to show the diverse sites provide a vast and expressive range of styles.

The 2020 Chardonnay is no exception, utilizing native yeasts in fermentation and battonage to give the wine an enhanced texture and minerality. This wine is made in the style reminiscent of a Meursault. Lemon curd, baking spice, and soft vanilla on the palate.  Aged in 30% new French barriques there is a perfectly balanced textural tone throughout the wine, this slight heft makes it a great solo sipper but also pair-able with food.
