La Ferme Rouge's winemaking history dates to the French occupation in 1933, but it is within the last 30 years that they have started to focus on elevating their farming practices and wine quality. While they had originally sold grapes to larger cooperatives, La Ferme recognized the potential of the terroir when farmed properly. They reorganized the vineyards around organic and minimal intervention farming: eliminating unnecessary plowing and leaving way for all forms of natural micro-fauna, using mixed cover crop, olive trees for wind protection and natural rain water storage. The predominantly French grape varieties thrive in the climate and soil, the vineyards are farmed organically, and crops are utilized in the winter to improve soil health.
At the heart of the Zaër region, highly praised among the great historical wine regions of Morocco, La Ferme Rouge is located at 30 miles from the Atlantic Ocean. Bordered on the south by the foothills of the Middle Atlas, the vineyard rises in a succession of hills at 450 meters above sea level and enjoys a strong Atlantic influence all year round with ocean fog rolling in at sunset time. The soil constitution remains mostly black and red ferric clay, sands and schist over a limestone subsoil.
Ripe fleshy white fruits with soft floral aromatics. Elegan, with good acidity to match the fruit in the glass with a long finish.
