Kloof Street is a second label owned and operated by Andrea and Chris Mullineux. As a leader in the so-called Swartland Revolution, the winery produces hand crafted, terroir based wines on the granite, shale, iron, quartz, and schist laced lands of the region.

Growing up in Northern Cali, Winemaker Andrea Mullineux studied Viticulture and Oenology at UC-Davis before working in Stellenbosch and meeting Chris at a wine festival in Champagne. Chris is the Viticulturist, in charge of the vineyards on their farm on Kasteelberg Mountain as well as fruit sourcing for Kloof Street. To add to their acclaim, Andrea Mullineux was named Wine Enthusiast’s Winemaker of the Year in 2016 for Mullineaux, their family winery in the Western Cape.

Kloof Street is their playful labe, meant to showcase SA wines in a style and pricepoint that everyone can enjoy. The vineyards are planted mostly with Mediterranean grape varieties that are ideally suited to the environment, and are farmed in harmony with their surroundings. Dry farming allows for a natural concentration in the wines, and ensures the vines properly reflect the character of each vintage. Cover cropping is practiced to maintain healthy, balanced insect populations and help with nitrogen assimilation. In the cellar, apart from minimal amounts of sulfur, nothing is added to, or removed from the wines.

The 2018 Rouge is a  field blend of predominantly Tinta Barocca and Syrah, with small mounts of Grenache, Cinsault and Carignan. Deep purple fruit, violets and spice on the nose. Medium to full bodied, firm structure but approachable tannins and a fresh finish.
