Domaine de Montbourgeau has produced wines in the Jura since Victor Gros planted vineyards in the 1920. The estate is now run by Victor Gros' granddaughter, Nicole Deriaux. Nicole took over the estate from her father, Jean Gros, in 1986. Since her takeover, Nicole's natural approach to every step of the process captures the true essence of the L'Etoile appellation in each of the separate bottlings done at the domaine.

The estate is located in the village of L’Etoile in the southwestern zone of the Jura. The origin of the name “L’Etoile” (meaning “star”) is attributed to the fact that there are five hills surrounding the village in the pattern of a star AND because of the numerous specimens of the marine fossils of ancient starfish (sally sold seashells by the seashore) that are found to this day in the soils of this appellation. The appellation of L'Etoile itself is very small, including only 52 hectares (in comparison, Napa Valley is about 18,210 hectares).
A slightly wild and complex white wine. Slightly tangy with toasted hazelnuts and almonds, citrus rind, golden orchard fruits and zippy mineral. Finishes with salinity and fresh acidity. Drink lightly chilled.
