Jacky Blot, is the founder of Domaine de la Taille Aux Loups and a master of Chenin Blanc. Since the 1980s, Jacky has been curating older vines and committing to organic farming. His journey started in 1988 when he purchased 8 hectares of 50-75 year old vines in the sub-region of Montlouis-sur-Loire in Touraine.
He was instrumental in putting Montlouis on the map and establishing it’s reputation for crystalline Chenin! Because the Loire Valley frequently goes through cold weather spells, the conventional standard is to pick the grapes early when they are not fully ripe before any chance of imminent frost and chapitalize to balance out the abrasive acidity/meet mandatory alcohol levels. This is leaning towards maximum intervention. Jacky Blot and his son (Jean-Philippe) believe that the future of high quality Chenin Blanc is in laser-pure, complex terroir-driven wines from minimal intervention. He is fanatic about not adding sugars to the wine because he thinks it’s lazy and blurs the wines best qualities - he believes that even in very cool climates a winemaker can bring out the best without parlor-tricks! He's also been a evolutionary of organic viticulture, hand harvests, wild yeasts, barrel fermentations and no malolactic in the Loire. CERTIFIED ORGANIC
Bright aromatic nose of white-fleshed fruits: peach and apricot, acacia flowers and a soft note of honeycomb. The palate is tense, lively and elegant. Yellow mirabelle plum and golden apples in the glass with a more round mouthfeel, finishes fresh with a touch of citrus and racy minerality.
