Costador is a tiny estate on a on a singular mountain in Concha de Barbera run by Joan Franquet. The estate works only with indigenous Catalan varieties of grape and all the vineyards are very old - mostly between 60 to 110 year - with a variety of “terroirs” and altitudes (between 400 to 800 meters).   Joan strives to preserve the authentic flavor and taste of each varietal, and to play on the unique character of each grape in the terroir and altitude of each of his specific vineyard - He feels it allows the genuine wine to develop from it's place of origin. He farms using organic and biodynamic practices in order to preserve the vineyards and their special characteristics.

The Metamorphika is rare opportunity to taste a single varietal expression of Trepat an obscure, rare grape native to Catalonia.  The wine is from vines aged around 60 years old, planted on stony clay soils. The grapes are hand harvested and fermented in clay amphorae.  Medium - bodied and vibrant, dark red fruits (cherry and deep plum) cocoa and woody notes.  Elegant, with fine grain tannins and a long finish.
