Jean-Pierre Amoreau and his son, Pascal, oversee the vineyards and vinification at Chateau Le Puy. The estate sits on the second highest point in the Gironde -  on the same plateau as Saint Emilion and Pomerol and- an area was formerly nicknamed 'Miracle Hills' on account of the amazing wines produced here. The vineyards are planted to spread of Bordeaux red varieties, including Merlot (85%), Cabernet Sauvignon (6%), Cabernet Franc (7%) along with a touch of Malbec and Carmenère. (with a tiny a amount of Semillon) Jean-Pascal and Pascal both believe heavily in doing things in line with the way their ancestors worked. The estate is fully biodynamic and organic: vines are 50+ years and have never seen synthetic treatments, they maintain ahealthy field blend to avoid mono-cropping, harvest and most cellar work is done manually. The "elevage" of the Le Puy wines is done according to the lunar rhythm.

The 2017 Emilien is a fruit forward and slightly earthy nose of violet, blackberry, cedar and mushrooms undergrowth. In the glass it’s well rounded and full bodied with deeper fruit: currant, black cherry, plum, bell pepper, olive, oak, spice, ginger and vanilla. Velvety tannins and a long finish. Drinks with elegance now but potential to age for years.
